It’s time to change course after taking feedback and reassessing our own history in the department. To reconsider the true history of fashion—the contribution, influence and impact of Black designers, whose work has been both celebrated and overlooked.
This year’s RUNWAY focus is History Retailored, and revisits decades of accomplished designers through a social justice lens. There is much work to do. With the support of our Africana Studies program, Runway and the Buffalo State College community reaffirms our desire to reflect, to learn, and to insist on a more diverse and inclusive future throughout the fashion industry. To celebrate Black excellence on and off the runway!
Investing in our department’s Black creative talent, FTT is excited to announce our plans to create a scholarship fund for Black fashion students. In addition to the scholarship, Runway fashion show will dedicate this year’s event to the Black Lives Matter Movement.
Our student designers and producers have a unique opportunity to participate in a global conversation that impacts their futures as young professionals in the fashion industry, which is one of the most diverse and global industries in the world.
Our FTT Action Plan Includes:
Create a scholarship fund for Black fashion students
Racial justice special guest speakers & discussions
FTT Department Industry Advisory Board and new Runway Alumni Advisory Board will include strategically chosen members from our African American fashion community
FTT Faculty will select a diverse selection of Runway jury and judges
